co-workers slain

Obvs this is all over the web already but… seriously. Unbelievably ill visuals.

Slugabed • Illum Sphere • Blue Daisy: Sept. 10

An absolutely monstrous show for sub⎸div this September… as if Rifflandia wasn’t enough, Sept. 10 will see some of the UK’s finest cutting edge producers gracing the sub⎸div stage. All three of these cats represent where the fam is steering toward;  the fringes of everything new & exciting.

Hath no fear – there will be bass here & plenty of it. But it will be delivered with a healthy dose of textural potency & loping rhythms, the type that make your neck snap the fuck off. Totally amped for the next level of future-funk to roll through… PEEP THE STREAMS BELOW.

new EP on the way from Rustie on Warp

Rustie, that other kid from Glasgow, has been on the backburner for a minute, keeping many-a-crunk fan salivating after the Bad Science EP on Wireblock. Well it looks like we can get ready for some new jams from the guy responsible for trailblazing a now ubiquitous approach to beats. Head on over to Warp to check a minimix for a peak at the next level of asymmetric crunk.

sub⎸div + Rifflandia = heat

Hyper-hyped to be collaborating with Rifflandia this year to bring the slickest collection of electronic music to Victoria in 2010. Taking place September 23-26, the lineup already features some amazing confirms: Mount Kimbie, Aesop Rock, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti & Lee Ranaldo (of Sonic Youth) to name just a few.

Fri 24/Sat 25/Sun 26 at Lucky Bar, we are proud to present 3 sub⎸division showcases, exploring new dancefloor possibilities at Rifflandia 3. Full schedule isn’t yet confirmed, but what we can tell you is this… along with the entire sub⎸div fam,  Egyptrixx & LongWalkShortDock are confirmed, plus Saturday night we’ve got the Motherfucking Gaslamp Killer!!! Stay tuned for the full lineup…

Mangetic Man… free Skream jams

It really is hard to deny this. Magnetic Man, the first dubstep act to sign to a major label, seems like it’s gonna be fucking huge. “I Need Air” is the first single from the trio comprised of Skream, Benga & Artwork (available for DL on July 26) & yeah, that’s it, that’s a top 40 bound anthem no? When Skream was in Victoria last year, he motioned some of the ideas the three of them were playing around with, namely 3d visuals, all Ableton sets & a crazy live experience. Well, judging by the video for “I Need Air”, it looks like they’re going for something pretty intense! They even made the cover of NME in April for chrissakes.

Skream himself has been digging through the vaults it seems as well. Over the last couple of weeks, he’s released a pair of Freeizm EPs, featuring tunes that reek of early FWD sessions. Freeizm 2 features a Skreamix of early Loefah burner “Indian Dub” & “Disturbin’ Toyz” is a drum-heavy beast with a simmering sub line that’s got us all ya know, INTO IT. A nice nod to the past before he explodes August 9 with his own Outside The Box (featuring Murs & La Roux) which will finally see the release of the ever elusive “Wibbler”. You can DL the cream of the Freeizm crop below (hint: avoid the “Show Me Love” edit like the plague).

Skream “Minimoool”

Skream “Pitfall”

Loefah “Indian Dub [Skreamix]“

Skream “Disturbin Toyz”

Skream “Dark Light”

Skream “Arola”

re: 2-step, wiki sez…

For those that don’t know, with 2-step “… the listener’s interest is maintained by the introduction of unusual snare placements & accents in the drum patterns, or scattered rimshots and woodblocks, as well as syncopated basslines and the percussive use of other instruments such as pads & strings…”

Thanks Wikipedia.

sub⎹div fam will be repping huge at Hush on May 20th – don’t sleep (it’s a good cause).

SBTRKT killing it right now

Not sure about too much to do with Londoner SBTRKT other than the cat is on fire right now. I was tipped off late last year when FaltyDL came through Victoria – he was raving about SBTRKT’s tunes & ensuring me that his 2010 would be worth checking for. The mid-2009 web-leak “Rekorda” got a lot of bumps, but he’s recently just shed a glut of tunes online, including some fab remix work & 2020, an EP for the lovely little imprint Brain Math.

The masked man is pushing that swinging 2step steez & this makes sub|div sound grin ear to ear. To-the-point & insanely perc-heavy, SBTRKT has remixed for Jose James, Fantastic Mr. Fox & Basement Jaxx & (hopefully) has a killer remix of “Superfast Jellyfish” by Gorillaz somewhere on the horizon. Plus there’s his collab with Sinden for the Grizzly label. Here’s a smattering of his tunes; get familiar, you’ll be hearing about this cat all year… plus, you’ll be hearing his tunes at sub|division as well. Here are some choice cuts plus his downloadable mix for Mary Anne Hobbs… ;)

Goldie “TImeless [SBTRKT Edit]“

SBTRKT “Soundboy Shift”

Jose James “Warrior [SBTRKT Remix]“

WARP 2010 features new FlyLo & Rustie tracks…

more about “Warp 2010“, posted with vodpod

A new sampler of Warp artists will be available as of December 7. 2010 will be selling on Bleep.com for a measly $3 & features a slew of new faces like Nice Nice, De Tropix & Gonjasurfi as well as mainstays like Bibio & Hudson Mohawke. Steven Ellison’s newest venture down mind-melt alley will also be on there… it’s called “Quakes” & it will consume your brain. I don’t know what’s more exciting; a new FlyLo track or the fact that Rustie’s tune is called “Inside Pikachu’s Cunt”… hmm.
